Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Tobisho (Tobizuka Shears Works), the Hiryu Alpha-Type 195mm stands at the absolute zenith of Japanese master blacksmithing. Evolving from the legendary Hiryu series, the Alpha-Type represents the ultimate fusion of traditional forging, micro-precision blade gap engineering, and enhanced grip ergonomics.

The signature upgrade of the Alpha-Type is its outward-flared handle tail design. By curving the ends of the forged iron handles outward away from the palm, Tobisho eliminates hand pinching during full closure and prevents the grip from digging into the base of the hand. This distinct flare creates an exceptionally natural, relaxed hand posture that lowers grip effort and maximizes leverage.

Like the standard Hiryu, it features Tobisho’s breakthrough Zero-Contact Clearance Construction (~0.2mm Micro-Gap). The cutting blade and counter-blade are precision-adjusted to maintain a ~0.2mm clearance gap, preventing direct steel-on-steel friction. This results in effortless, silky handle movement, zero metal wear, and optimal cutting power transfer.

Forged from genuine Hitachi Yasuki Special Carbon Steel, the primary blade features a widened, tapered spine transitioning into a surgical edge. Paired with 3D concave hollow grinding (Urasuki) and twisted crossover geometry (Hinari), it bites into live branches instantly and glides through timber with unmatched ease. An internal shock-absorbing spring mechanism dampens end-of-cut recoil, while a traditional genuine leather bottom latch provides a quiet, refined closure.
