Description

Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Tobisho (Tobizuka Shears Works), the A-Type 200mm Blue Paper Steel Edition (Model 374) is a master-tier Japanese bypass pruning shear built specifically for uncompromising sharpness and extreme edge retention.

This specialized model explicitly incorporates legendary Yasuki Aogami (Hitachi Blue Paper Steel) for its main cutting edge—a premier grade of Japanese carbon steel enriched with tungsten and chromium. Renowned in high-end culinary knives and traditional craft tools, Aogami delivers unparalleled hardness, a surgical-grade bite, and exceptional resistance to edge degradation (Nagagire), even through intensive daily commercial pruning.

To prevent the ultra-hard steel from becoming brittle, Tobisho employs its traditional high-temperature brass brazing technique (Rouzuke), fusing the razor-sharp Aogami blade and counter-blade elements to a tough, shock-absorbing soft iron handle structure using liquid brass. A striking golden brass seam along the blade joint stands as proof of genuine hand-brazed craftsmanship.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Authentic Yasuki Aogami (Blue Paper Steel): Features genuine Hitachi Blue Paper Steel on the primary cutting edge for extreme sharpness and unmatched long-term edge holding ability.

Traditional Brass Brazing (Rouzuke): Expertly welds high-carbon steel to a resilient soft iron base with molten brass, giving the tool an unbreakable body capable of withstanding high torque and heavy lateral forces.

A-Type Heavy-Duty Geometry: Constructed with a reinforced blade spine engineered to slice through thick, dense branches without twisting or chipping.

Integrated Finger Guard Handle: Designed with an ergonomic palm stopper / ridge at the grip base that prevents the hand from sliding forward toward the blade, maximizing safety and leverage during heavy cuts.

3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): The back of the cutting blade is precision-ground into a 3D concave curve to minimize steel-to-steel friction, resist tree sap (Yani) buildup, and deliver effortless slicing.

Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): The counter-blade incorporates a subtle twist angle (Hinari) ensuring single-point blade contact, producing surgical cuts that promote rapid tree healing.

Traditional Brass Catch (Kana-dome): Finished with a classic brass bottom handle latch for secure storage.
