Description
Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Tobisho (Tobizuka Shears Works), the A-Type 200mm Laminated Steel Edition (Model 373) represents the pinnacle of traditional Japanese master blacksmithing (Yamagata Uchihamono). Unlike modern full-steel forged shears, this masterpiece utilizes a time-honored laminated structure (Rouzuke), where ultra-hard premium high-carbon cutlery steel (Blue Paper Steel class) is high-temperature brazed to a tough, shock-absorbing soft iron handle base using brass.
This complex two-piece construction creates the ultimate balance for professional field tools: a cutting edge that is extraordinarily hard and retains a razor-sharp bite over extended commercial use (Nagagire), paired with a body that is supple, highly durable, and completely resistant to snapping under heavy lateral load. A distinct golden brass line is visible along the blade joint, serving as the hallmark of genuine hand-brazed craftsmanship.
Key Features & Craftsmanship:
Traditional Laminated Structure (Rouzuke): Combines an ultra-hard high-carbon steel cutting edge with a tough soft iron base, fused together via high-temperature brass brazing. Delivers unmatched edge retention without sacrificing structural flexibility.
A-Type Heavy-Duty Geometry: Engineered with a thicker, reinforced blade spine to handle tough, thick branches without flexing or chipping under heavy pressure.
Integrated Finger Guard Handle: Features an ergonomic palm stopper / ridge at the base of the grip that prevents the hand from slipping forward toward the blade during high-force cuts, ensuring exceptional safety and leverage.
3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): The back of the main cutting blade is precision-ground into a subtle three-dimensional concave curve. This minimizes steel-to-steel friction, prevents sap (Yani) and resin adhesion, and maintains smooth shearing action.
Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): The counter-blade incorporates a subtle twist angle (Hinari), ensuring the cutting edges meet at an exact single "point" as they close, leaving clean, smooth branch cuts that promote tree healing.
Traditional Brass Catch (Kana-dome): Equipped with a classic brass bottom handle latch to secure the handles safely when not in use.
