Description

Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Tobisho (Tobizuka Shears Works), the SR-1 200mm Cushion Spring Edition (Model 351) is a premium, flagship Japanese bypass pruning shear engineered for maximum hand protection, fatigue reduction, and high-volume commercial pruning.

The defining feature of this high-end model is its integrated shock-absorbing urethane cushion spring (stopper bumper) located at the base of the handles. Traditional secateurs generate a sharp metallic recoil impact directly into the user's palm, wrist, and elbow with every cut. Tobisho’s built-in cushion mechanism absorbs this violent end-of-cut shock, drastically reducing fatigue, strain, and long-term joint inflammation (tendonitis). It is widely celebrated by professional arborists, orchardists, and arbor-culture specialists performing thousands of daily cuts.

Built using Tobisho's renowned full-steel forging with high-grade Japanese high-carbon cutlery steel (approx. 1% carbon content), this tool achieves outstanding edge retention (Nagagire) and structural toughness while maintaining a surprisingly agile, lightweight balance. Every pair is die-forged and then hand-finished across more than 200 manual steps by master blacksmiths.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Integrated Shock-Absorbing Cushion: Features an embedded urethane bumper that eliminates harsh metal-on-metal impact, protecting hands, elbows, and wrists during repetitive, heavy-duty pruning.

3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): The back of the main cutting blade is precision-ground into a subtle three-dimensional concave curve. This minimizes steel-to-steel friction, prevents sap (Yani) and resin adhesion, and ensures smooth, continuous shearing.

Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): The counter-blade incorporates a subtle twist angle (Hinari), ensuring the cutting edges meet at an exact single "point" rather than across a broad surface as they close. This enables clean, razor-sharp cuts through live wood with minimal hand force, leaving smooth branch cuts that promote tree healing and prevent disease.

SR-1 Full-Size Ergonomics: Measuring 200mm in overall length with a 63mm blade (from bolt center), the SR-1 profile provides optimal leverage and comfortable ergonomics for medium to larger hands tackling demanding field work.

Traditional Brass Catch (Kana-dome): Finished with a classic brass bottom handle latch to lock the handles securely when not in use.
