Description

Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Abukumagawa Sokan, the B-Type 200mm Edition is a legendary Japanese bypass pruning shear crafted by the pioneer workshop that forged Japan’s very first secateurs in 1870. Tracing its lineage back to master samurai swordsmiths, Sokan tools are celebrated nationwide for their rugged durability, historical integrity, and no-nonsense commercial cutting performance.

The hallmark of this model is its heavy-duty Convex Edge profile (Hamaguri-ba). Unlike thin, fragile blades, the cutting edge is forged with a thick, shell-curved cross-section that provides immense structural strength. This allows the shear to bite through tough branches without chipping or flexing, making it exceptionally resilient under heavy load.

Combined with the iconic B-Type streamlined frame, squeezing force is transferred seamlessly from the hand straight to the tip of the blade. This efficient power distribution ensures smooth, effortless "slice-through" action with minimal wrist strain. Forged entirely from High-Grade Japanese Carbon Cutlery Steel, each tool is hand-forged and finished using traditional techniques to deliver outstanding edge retention and easy whetstone maintenance.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Pioneer Japanese Heritage: Crafted by Abukumagawa Sokan, the original maker credited with creating Japan's first pruning shears in 1870, leveraging over 200 years of swordsmithing lineage.

Heavy-Duty Convex Edge (Hamaguri-ba): Features a thick, shell-curved blade bevel engineered for extreme toughness, preventing chipping when tackling dense, hard branches.

B-Type Direct-Power Geometry: Streamlined handle and blade alignment transfers leverage directly to the blade tip, maximizing cutting efficiency while minimizing hand fatigue.

Full Solid Steel Forging: Forged entirely from premium Japanese carbon cutlery steel for high structural rigidity, long-lasting edge holding, and easy whetstone resharpening.

3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): Precision-ground concave back minimizes metal-to-metal friction and prevents tree sap (Yani) binding during heavy use.

Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): Incorporates subtle crossover twist alignment, maintaining single-point blade contact for clean cuts that promote rapid plant recovery.

Traditional Bottom Lock: Finished with a classic metal handle latch for secure closure during transport and storage.
