Description
Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Abukumagawa Sokan, the Large B-Type 225mm Edition is a high-leverage Japanese bypass pruning shear built specifically for heavy-duty rough pruning (Ara-giri), thick orchard branches, and demanding commercial tree work. Produced by the pioneer workshop that forged Japan’s very first secateurs in 1870, this shear carries over 150 years of master blacksmithing heritage.
Measuring 225mm in overall length with an extended 73mm blade, this extra-large model provides outstanding mechanical leverage. Combined with the streamlined B-Type frame geometry, squeezing force is transferred directly and efficiently to the very tip of the blade, allowing users to slice through thick limbs with far less physical exertion.
The core of its heavy-duty performance lies in its signature Convex Edge profile (Hamaguri-ba). The cutting blade is forged with a thick, shell-curved cross-section that reinforces structural integrity. This robust geometry prevents edge chipping or twisting when cutting hard, dense timber under heavy load. Forged entirely from High-Grade Japanese Carbon Cutlery Steel, it offers supreme edge toughness, long wear resistance, and straightforward maintenance on traditional whetstones.
Key Features & Craftsmanship:
Pioneer Japanese Heritage: Crafted by Abukumagawa Sokan, the historic workshop credited with creating Japan's first pruning shears in 1870, drawing on centuries of samurai swordsmithing lineage.
Large-Frame Heavy-Duty Rough-Cutter: Extended 225mm handles and a 73mm blade deliver high mechanical torque, making light work of thick orchard branches and tough timber.
Heavy-Duty Convex Edge (Hamaguri-ba): Features a thick, shell-curved blade bevel engineered for extreme structural strength, preventing chipping during aggressive pruning cuts.
B-Type Direct-Power Geometry: Direct alignment of the handles and blade transfers squeezing force seamlessly to the blade tip, maximizing cut efficiency while minimizing arm strain.
Full Solid Steel Forging: Forged entirely from premium Japanese carbon cutlery steel for high structural rigidity, long-lasting edge retention, and easy whetstone resharpening.
3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): Precision-ground concave back minimizes metal friction and prevents tree sap (Yani) binding.
Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): Incorporates subtle twist alignment for single-point blade contact, producing clean cuts that encourage rapid branch recovery.
Traditional Bottom Lock: Secured with a classic metal handle latch for reliable closure during storage.
