Description
Handcrafted in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture—the prestigious realm of traditional Yamagata blacksmithing—by Nomuraya Shears Works, the Murahisa Single-Edged Bud Trimming Scissors 180mm with Leather Catch is a legendary, professional-grade hybrid shear prized by arborists, fruit growers, and bonsai masters throughout Japan. Nomuraya holds a honored place in Japanese cutlery history, having been inspected by Emperor Showa during his post-war national tour, and its hand-forged tools are so highly sought after that backorders often take years to fulfill.
This hybrid model perfectly bridges the gap between a delicate bud trimmer (Mekiri-basa) and a heavy-duty pruning shear (Sentei-basa). Featuring a single-edged (Kataba) geometry with an anvil-style counter blade, it provides sturdy bracing support that allows users to slice through thicker branches and shoots (up to approximately 10mm) far more effortlessly than double-edged models can manage, while retaining supreme control for fine bud selection.
Forged using traditional flame forging (Hizukuri) and high-grade carbon cutlery steel, each pair is hand-finished by master blacksmiths. It incorporates traditional 3D hollow back-grinding (Urasuki) to prevent sap adhesion and precise crossover alignment (Hinari) for a light, fluid cutting action. Fitted with an authentic, durable traditional leather loop lock (Kawa-dome) at the handle base, this tool represents the pinnacle of functional beauty and practical Japanese craftsmanship.
Key Features & Craftsmanship:
Single-Edged (Kataba) Anvil Geometry: Pruner-style counter blade supports wood during high-force cuts, enabling clean cuts through thicker twigs and shoots than standard double-edged bud shears.
Yamagata Hand-Forged Heritage: Handcrafted by Nomuraya Shears Works, a historic blacksmith honored by Emperor Showa's official visit, renowned for producing rare, heirloom-quality shears.
Versatile Hybrid All-Rounder: Offers the perfect balance of delicate tip accuracy for bud picking and robust blade strength for light branch pruning.
Master Urasuki & Hinari Alignment: Concave inner blade geometry reduces sap buildup and cutting friction, paired with expert crossover tuning for a smooth, effort-free bite.
High-Carbon Cutlery Steel: Outstanding razor-sharp edge retention (Nagagire) that responds exceptionally well to maintenance on natural or synthetic whetstones.
Traditional Leather Loop Lock (Kawa-dome): Features a classic leather closure loop at the base for secure handle storage and timeless aesthetic appeal.
