Description
The Minamoto no Akitada is a master-tier Japanese gardening shear hand-forged in Sakai—one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional cutlery regions. Crafted using High-Speed Steel (HSS), an exceptional tool steel typically reserved for high-end industrial drills due to its extreme hardness, superior toughness, and remarkable impact resistance, this shear represents the pinnacle of modern edge longevity.
The HSS steel is bonded to the soft iron base using traditional copper brazing, a high-level master technique visible by the distinctive orange line along the blade. Featuring a 235mm total length and a 95mm (3.5 Sun) blade profile, it delivers extended reach and smooth cutting efficiency, making it especially well-suited for intricate pine tree pruning. Built with a traditional hollow ground design (Urasuki) and a durable rivet joint, this shear offers unmatched sharpness that lasts exponentially longer than standard carbon steels.
