Description

Handcrafted in Yamagata City, Japan, by the revered Kudo Shears Works (Kudo Seikyosho), the A-Type 200mm Special Steel Edition is a heavy-duty Japanese bypass pruning shear built to master demanding commercial pruning operations. Built on over 80 years of blacksmithing experience, Kudo shears embody Yamagata’s 650-year-old metalworking tradition.

The defining feature of this A-Type model lies in its steeply beveled counter-blade geometry. By grinding the counter-blade to a wider angle with an exceptionally sharp edge bevel, Kudo reduces initial cutting resistance as the primary blade glides through the timber. This specialized design delivers a clean, effortless "slice-through" feel that minimizes hand strain during all-day field work.

Forged entirely from high-grade Japanese Special Cutlery Steel, the heavy-set A-Type body offers robust structural integrity that resists flexing under high leverage. Each pair is meticulously hand-finished and stamped with Kudo’s iconic "Maru-ni-Kiyo" (Kiyo in a Circle) hallmark, serving as a guarantee of authentic Yamagata craftsmanship and long-lasting tool quality.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Steeply Beveled Anvil Geometry: Engineered with a wide-angled, razor-sharpened counter-blade that minimizes cutting resistance and delivers an effortless, fluid "slice-through" action.

Heavy-Duty A-Type Frame: Features a thicker blade spine and robust shoulder built to handle thick orchard limbs without flexing or twisting under pressure.

Special Cutlery Steel Forging: Constructed from premium Japanese Special Carbon Cutlery Steel, offering high structural toughness, excellent edge retention, and easy resharpening on traditional whetstones.

3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): Precision-ground concave back minimizes steel-to-steel friction, resists sap (Yani) buildup, and maintains smooth opening action.

Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): Incorporates Yamagata’s signature twist angle (Hinari), ensuring single-point blade contact for clean cuts that promote fast branch healing.

Heritage Maker's Mark: Stamped with the official "Maru-ni-Kiyo" hallmark, representing over 80 years of recognized award-winning craftsmanship in Yamagata.

Traditional Brass Catch (Kana-dome): Finished with a classic brass bottom handle latch for safe and reliable storage.
