Description

Forged in Miki, Japan, by master sawmakers at Hishika Industry (established in 1947), the "Tomokichi Master" 390mm Hand-Forged Temagari-Noko (curved forestry pull saw) is an extra-long, high-capacity timber saw built for the most demanding forestry applications. Engineered specifically for heavy timber felling, giant log bucking, and primary land-clearing, this massive 390mm blade delivers unmatched stroke reach and leverage on extra-large timber.

Designed with a Graduated Tooth Pitch Geometry, the teeth are finely spaced near the handle for smooth, controlled stroke initiation, gradually transitioning to large, aggressive teeth toward the tip. This unique tooth progression allows the user to start precision kerfs before unleashing the full, sweeping 390mm stroke to rapidly process large-diameter trunks with incredible cutting speed.

To prevent binding inside deep cuts, the blade features Hishika’s signature Back-Tapered Thin Blade Geometry (Sen-Togi). Precision-ground so the spine is ground thinner than the cutting edge, kerf drag and friction are drastically minimized even when working deep inside heavy logs. Each high-carbon steel blade is individually hand-tempered to maximum professional hardness, providing extreme razor sharpness and exceptional edge retention.

Despite its impressive reach, the saw remains exceptionally well-balanced thanks to its handle traditionally crafted from lightweight Paulownia wood (Kiri). Tightly wrapped in Natural Rattan (Tou-maki), it provides a non-slip, vibration-damping grip that reduces arm fatigue and ensures total control during intensive sawing. Made from high-grade Japanese tool steel, this saw is fully resharpenable (Metate) for decades of continuous trade service.

Includes a protective nylon storage sheath for transport.

Note for Users: Hand-tempered to maximum professional hardness, this high-carbon steel blade is a fine, precision cutting instrument. Apply force exclusively on the straight PULL stroke without twisting, levering, or forcing the blade inside deep kerfs.

Key Features & Performance:

390mm Extra-Long Forestry Reach: Massive stroke length designed for primary timber felling, heavy log bucking, and clearing extra-large trunks.

Graduated Tooth Pitch Geometry: Finer teeth at the base ensure easy cut starting, while aggressive teeth toward the tip maximize timber removal per pull stroke.

Paulownia Wood & Rattan-Wrapped Handle: Extremely lightweight Paulownia core wrapped in natural non-slip rattan for maximum control, moisture absorption, and reduced fatigue on long cuts.

Full-Hardness Hand-Tempering: Individually heat-treated by Miki master blacksmiths for supreme sharpness and edge retention.

Back-Tapered Thin Blade Geometry (Sen-Togi): Tapered blade spine prevents binding and kerf friction deep inside large timber cuts.

Resharpenable Blade (Metate Compatible): High-carbon tool steel can be traditionally hand-filed and resharpened for decades of trade use.
