Description
Forged in Miki—Japan’s historic center of traditional sawmaking—by Hishika Industry (established in 1947), the 180mm Mini Pruning Saw delivers authentic handcrafted performance with an extended stroke length for versatile field work. Measuring 300mm in total length with a 180mm blade, this fixed-blade saw strikes an ideal balance between compact maneuverability and faster cutting capacity on medium-sized branches and fruit trees.
Unlike mass-produced tools, each Hishika blade undergoes a full-blade traditional heat treatment. Master blacksmiths individually hand-temper the high-carbon steel plate, creating an optimal balance of steel elasticity, sharp tooth bite, and effortless pull-stroke action. Built with Hishika’s signature Back-Tapered Thin Blade Geometry (Sen-Togi), the blade spine is ground thinner than the tooth edge to eliminate kerf friction and prevent binding in fresh wood.
The razor-sharp hand-forged edge leaves mirror-smooth cross-sections that accelerate natural branch callusing and protect plant tissue from rot or disease. Made from premium Japanese tool steel, this saw is fully resharpenable (Metate), making it a durable lifetime investment for arborists, orchardists, and serious landscapers.
Note for Users: Hand-tempered high-carbon steel blades are fine, precision cutting tools. Apply force exclusively on the PULL stroke, letting the blade's geometry do the work without pushing or twisting.
Key Features & Craftsmanship:
Traditional Hand-Forged Construction: Handcrafted by Miki blacksmiths using manual full-blade heat treatment and precision tempering.
Extended 180mm Blade (300mm Overall): Offers longer reach and faster stroke efficiency while maintaining easy maneuverability inside dense foliage.
Back-Tapered Thin Blade Geometry: Tapered spine reduces kerf drag for light, effort-free pulling action.
Surgical-Clean Cut Quality: Slices cell walls smoothly to promote healthy plant healing and prevent disease entry.
Resharpenable Blade (Metate Ready): High-carbon Japanese tool steel can be traditionally hand-filed and resharpened for decades of continuous service.
