Description

Forged in Miki—Japan’s historic center of master sawmaking—by Hishika Industry (established in 1947), this 180mm Hand-Forged Mini Pruning Saw features a classic Rattan-Wrapped Straight Wooden Handle (Fuji-maki Straight Pattern). Blending traditional Japanese artisan craftsmanship with high practical performance, the natural rattan wrapping provides a firm, tactile non-slip grip even when working in wet conditions or with leather gloves.

Measuring 300mm in total length with a 180mm blade, this fixed-blade saw offers an extended cutting stroke over smaller mini saws, allowing faster coverage on medium-sized branches while remaining nimble in tight foliage. Each high-carbon steel blade undergoes traditional full-blade hand-tempering by master smiths, creating an optimal balance of structural elasticity, edge retention, and smooth stroke feedback. Built with Hishika’s signature Back-Tapered Thin Blade Geometry (Sen-Togi), the blade spine is ground thinner than the cutting teeth to eliminate kerf friction and prevent binding in fresh wood.

The razor-sharp hand-forged edge leaves mirror-smooth cross-sections that accelerate natural callusing and protect plant tissue from rot or infection. Crafted from premium Japanese carbon steel, this tool is fully resharpenable (Metate), making it a durable lifetime investment for arborists, fruit growers, and serious landscapers.

Note for Users: Hand-tempered high-carbon steel blades are fine, precision cutting tools. Apply force exclusively on the PULL stroke without twisting or pushing into the cut.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Traditional Rattan-Wrapped Straight Handle (Fuji-maki): Hand-wrapped natural rattan over a straight wooden handle delivers a superior non-slip grip and timeless Japanese aesthetic.

Hand-Forged & Hand-Tempered: Full-blade manual heat treatment by Miki master blacksmiths ensures exceptional sharpness and long-lasting edge bite.

Extended 180mm Blade (300mm Overall): Offers faster stroke efficiency for medium branches while maintaining precision handling inside dense growth.

Back-Tapered Thin Blade Geometry: Tapered spine reduces friction inside the cut for effort-free pulling action.

Surgical-Clean Cut Quality: Slices cell walls smoothly to promote fast plant healing and guard against infection.

Resharpenable Blade (Metate Ready): High-carbon steel can be traditionally hand-filed and resharpened for decades of continuous use.
