Description

Handcrafted in Yamagata Prefecture by Tobisho (Tobizuka Shears Works), the A-Type 225mm Blue Paper Steel Edition is an extra-large, heavy-duty Japanese bypass pruning shear engineered for severe commercial pruning, thick timber, and relentless daily orchard work.

Measuring 225mm in overall length with an extended 75mm blade, this large-frame shear provides maximum mechanical leverage, effortlessly slicing through thick, dense limbs that bog down smaller shears. The primary cutting edge is forged from genuine Yasuki Aogami (Hitachi Blue Paper Steel)—a legendary Japanese carbon steel alloyed with tungsten and chromium. Recognized across high-end cutlery and master woodworking tools, Aogami offers extraordinary hardness, a razor-like bite, and unrivaled edge retention (Nagagire).

To prevent this ultra-hard steel from snapping under heavy leverage or lateral load, Tobisho applies its signature high-temperature brass brazing technique (Rouzuke), fusing the Aogami cutting edge and counter-blade to a tough, shock-absorbing soft iron handle structure using molten brass. A distinct golden brass seam along the blade joint serves as proof of genuine hand-brazed craftsmanship.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Extended 225mm High-Leverage Frame: Long handles and an expanded 75mm blade maximize cutting torque, drastically reducing hand force when pruning thick branches.

Authentic Yasuki Aogami (Blue Paper Steel): Main cutting edge forged from genuine Hitachi Blue Paper Steel for surgical-grade sharpness and unmatched long-term edge endurance.

Traditional Brass Brazing (Rouzuke): Fuses high-carbon steel to a resilient soft iron base using liquid brass, creating an unbreakable body built for high torque and lateral stress.

Integrated Finger Guard Handle: Designed with an ergonomic palm stopper / ridge at the grip base that prevents the hand from sliding forward toward the blade, maximizing safety during high-power cuts.

3D Curved Urasuki (Hollow Ground Back): The back of the cutting blade is precision-ground into a 3D concave curve to minimize steel friction, resist tree sap (Yani) buildup, and ensure smooth slicing.

Precision Hinari (Crossover Alignment): Subtle twist alignment ensures exact single-point blade contact, producing razor-smooth cuts that encourage rapid branch healing.

Traditional Brass Catch (Kana-dome): Finished with a classic brass bottom handle latch for safe storage.
