Description

Handcrafted in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture—the historic heartland of 250-year-old Banshu blacksmithing traditions—by Azumagawa Shears Works (est. 1898), the Lightweight Pruning Shears 180mm is an exceptionally versatile hybrid shear bridging the gap between a fine bud trimmer (Mekiri-basa) and a heavy-duty pruning shear (Sentei-basa).

Measuring 185mm in overall length with a 60mm blade, this lightweight all-rounder is designed for gardeners, fruit growers, and arborists who need a single, highly adaptable tool. It offers the delicate precision required for bud thinning and foliage shaping, while possessing the structural strength and blade force to slice through moderately thick branches with ease.

Forged through a complete 50-step in-house manufacturing process, each shear is hand-hammered from premium high-carbon cutlery steel and undergoes Azumagawa's full-body heat treatment (Maruyaki). Featuring hand-adjusted 3D hollow back-grinding (Urasuki) and master crossover alignment (Hinari), it delivers a fluid blade glide, minimal sap friction, and razor-sharp cutting power.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Versatile Hybrid Design: Bridges the gap between bud trimming and branch pruning, making it an indispensable all-in-one hand shear for general garden maintenance.

Lightweight & Agile Handling: Compact 185mm frame minimizes wrist strain during extended pruning sessions without sacrificing branch-cutting power.

Banshu Hand-Forged Heritage: Handcrafted by Azumagawa (est. 1898) using 120+ years of blacksmithing expertise across a complete 50-step in-house forging process.

Whole-Blade Hardening (Maruyaki): Heat-treated through the entire body of the steel for maximum structural toughness, edge retention, and durability.

Master Urasuki & Hinari Alignment: Concave inner blade grinding reduces sap buildup, paired with hand-tuned crossover geometry for a smooth, effortless blade glide.

High-Carbon Cutlery Steel: Delivers outstanding razor-sharp edge retention (Nagagire) and simple maintenance on traditional whetstones.
