Description

Handcrafted in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture—the historic heartland of 250-year-old Banshu blacksmithing traditions—by Azumagawa Shears Works (est. 1898), the Sharp Tip Pruning Type Bud Trimming Scissors 180mm is a high-precision, heavy-duty hybrid shear engineered to handle both fine bud trimming and medium branch pruning.

This model's standout feature is its straight-ground base edge mechanics (Chokusen-kiba). Unlike conventional curved blades, the base of the cutting edge transitions into a straight line, forcing the cutting and anvil blades to move parallel to each other. Similar to an anvil-style pruner, this design grips branches firmly at the heel, preventing slipping (Eda-nigai) during heavy cuts. The tip is ground down into a razor-sharp, narrow profile, allowing delicate access into tight spaces for precise bud selection.

Forged through a complete 50-step in-house process, each shear is hand-hammered from high-carbon cutlery steel and undergoes Azumagawa's full-body heat treatment (Maruyaki). Combined with hand-adjusted 3D hollow grinding (Urasuki) and crossover alignment (Hinari), it delivers smooth blade glide, high branch retention, and exceptional durability.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Straight Base Edge Mechanics: Straight edge geometry at the blade heel works like an anvil mechanism, locking branches in place to prevent slippage during high-force cuts.

Tapered Sharp Tip Profile: Slender, sharply finished tips offer surgical precision for reaching into tight growth for fine bud selection and foliage shaping.

Versatile Hybrid Design: Perfect bridge between fine bud trimming and branch pruning, serving as an essential all-in-one tool for garden maintenance.

Banshu Hand-Forged Heritage: Handcrafted by Azumagawa (est. 1898) using 120+ years of blacksmithing expertise across a complete 50-step in-house forging process.

Whole-Blade Hardening (Maruyaki): Heat-treated through the entire body of the steel for supreme structural strength, edge holding, and impact resistance.

Master Urasuki & Hinari Alignment: Concave inner blade grinding minimizes friction and sap adhesion, paired with hand-tuned crossover geometry for fluid operation.
