Description

Handcrafted in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture—the historic heartland of 250-year-old Banshu blacksmithing traditions—by Azumagawa Shears Works (est. 1898), the Single-Edged Bud Trimming Scissors 200mm is an extended, high-precision hybrid shear designed for fine bud trimming, pine pruning (Metsumi), and cutting thicker branches deep within tree canopies.

Unlike traditional double-edged bud trimmers, this model features a single-edged (Kataba) geometry with a contoured anvil-style counter blade similar to a standard pruning shear. This specialized anvil support braces the branch firmly as the sharp cutting edge slices through, allowing gardeners, arborists, and bonsai artists to cleanly slice through noticeably thicker wood than double-edged models can manage.

With an overall length of 205mm and an extended 76mm blade reach, Model 368 provides superior leverage and deep reach into dense foliage. Forged through a complete 50-step in-house process, each shear is hand-hammered from high-carbon cutlery steel and undergoes Azumagawa's full-body heat treatment (Maruyaki). Featuring hand-adjusted 3D hollow back-grinding (Urasuki) and master crossover alignment (Hinari), it delivers a fluid blade glide, minimal sap friction, and exceptional durability.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Single-Edged (Kataba) Anvil-Support Geometry: Features a pruning shear-style counter blade that supports branches during high-force cuts, enabling clean cuts through thicker wood than traditional double-edged bud shears.

Extended Reach & High Leverage: 205mm overall length with a 76mm blade reach allows seamless access deep into dense foliage with enhanced cutting force.

Banshu Hand-Forged Heritage: Handcrafted by Azumagawa (est. 1898) using 120+ years of blacksmithing expertise across a complete 50-step in-house forging process.

Whole-Blade Hardening (Maruyaki): Heat-treated through the entire body of the steel for maximum structural toughness, edge retention, and durability.

Master Urasuki & Hinari Alignment: Concave inner blade grinding reduces sap buildup, paired with hand-tuned crossover geometry for a smooth, fluid blade glide.

High-Carbon Cutlery Steel: Delivers outstanding razor-sharp edge retention (Nagagire) and effortless maintenance on traditional whetstones.
