Description

Handcrafted in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture—the historic heartland of 250-year-old Banshu blacksmithing traditions—by Azumagawa Shears Works (est. 1898), the Double-Edged Bud Trimming Scissors 210mm is an extra-long, high-precision Japanese shear designed for fine branch trimming, bud thinning, and deep foliage pruning.

Featuring an extended 210mm frame with a long 87mm blade reach, this model provides superior reach and leverage for working deep inside dense foliage or high tree canopies. Forged through an intense 50-step in-house manufacturing process, each pair is hand-hammered from premium high-carbon cutlery steel and undergoes Azumagawa's signature full-body thermal heat treatment (Maruyaki). The double-edged (Ryoba) blade geometry delivers clean, surgical cuts without crushing delicate plant tissue.

Every pair is meticulously hand-adjusted by master blacksmiths for exact 3D hollow back-grinding (Urasuki) and crossover alignment (Hinari). This creates a signature silky-smooth blade glide (Nameraka-na Suri-awase) that minimizes sap friction and ensures effortless cutting performance.

Key Features & Craftsmanship:

Double-Edged (Ryoba) Geometry: Precision double-bevel blades deliver balanced, crisp cutting control for delicate bud thinning, foliage shaping, and harvesting.

Extended Reach & Maximum Leverage: 210mm overall length with an 87mm blade reach allows seamless access deep into dense growth with enhanced cutting power.

Banshu Hand-Forged Heritage: Handcrafted by Azumagawa (est. 1898) using 120+ years of blacksmithing expertise across a 50-step complete in-house forging process.

Whole-Blade Hardening (Maruyaki): Heat-treated through the entire body of the steel for maximum structural toughness, edge retention, and durability.

Master Urasuki & Hinari Alignment: Concave inner blade grinding reduces sap buildup, paired with hand-tuned crossover geometry for a exceptionally smooth blade glide.

High-Carbon Cutlery Steel: Delivers outstanding razor-sharp edge retention (Nagagire) and effortless maintenance on traditional whetstones.
