OVERVIEW & CONCEPT
A charming, sculptural masterpiece derived from one of Japan’s most famous historical stone monuments.

Modeled after the National Important Cultural Property "Sekidera Gyuto" (The Bull Pagoda of Seki Temple) in Shiga Prefecture, this unique "Oki-Doro" (placed lantern) transforms an ancient 11th-century sacred stone pagoda into an intimate, warm accent for modern landscapes.

Featuring a soft, barrel-like silhouette, a rounded foundation, and a simple square firebox window, this lantern eschews harsh geometric edges in favor of an organic, approachable warmth that settles effortlessly into quiet gardens.

HERITAGE & THE SACRED BULL LEGEND
- The Miracle at Seki Temple (1025 AD):
During the rebuilding of Seki Temple in the Heian period, a mysterious bull arrived out of nowhere, tirelessly hauling massive stone blocks and oak timber up the mountain. Struck by its superhuman strength and devotion, legendary monks and powerful nobles—including Fujiwara no Michinaga—revered the bull as a living incarnation of Kashyapa Buddha.

When the temple was finished in 1025 AD, the sacred bull peacefully passed away. In gratitude, a monumental 3.3-meter stone pagoda was raised over its resting place.

- Praised by Cultural Icons:
Celebrated in classical medieval literature and later immortalized by renowned essayist Masako Shirasu as "overflowing with generous warmth and true Japanese spirit," the iconic silhouette of the Bull Pagoda remains one of Japan's most cherished stone forms.

CRAFTSMANSHIP & DETAILS
- 100% Hand-Carved: Precision-chiseled from solid natural Japanese granite (such as Hirukawa granite), capturing a rustic, weathered texture that gathers moss and character over time.
- Unique Curvaceous Profile: Faithfully recreates the iconic "壺 (tsubo) / barrel-shaped" trunk, offering a rare, organic form distinct from standard geometric lanterns.
- Ambient Illumination: Fitted with a hand-carved square fire window (Higuchi), allowing a warm candle or modern LED light to cast a soft glow across garden pathways and stone steps.

LANDSCAPE APPLICATION & SIZING
- Perfect for Intimate Spaces:
With its low center of gravity and compact scale, the Gyuto lantern is exceptionally versatile. It serves as an enchanting focal point for courtyard gardens (Tsuboniwa), entry thresholds, tea garden pathways (Roji), or nestled under low ferns and moss beds.
